Why “The Frugal Cottage”?

June 2, 2014

A quick post to really explain the name behind the blog.

For me, being frugal is not scrimping and saving every penny in the quest for financial freedom. For me, being frugal is making sure that every single penny that we work hard for is put to the best possible use for maximum gains. Both me and my husband work hard for our money (as does everyone else) and I don’t want to waste it on things we don’t need or really want, despite what adverts might tell us otherwise.  Frugal for us means being careful, so that we can do the things we want to do in the future, without having to worry about the pressure of finance when the time comes.

The cottage part inspires the picture in my mind of a tiny little cottage in a village somewhere, complete with a log fire burning away in the living room, candles on the window sill and a well worn garden path. There would be flowers in the garden, making it look and smell beautiful all year round and perhaps a tree to offer some welcome shade. It also shows that you don’t have to have the biggest house going to be happy; in fact, in our lives, we’re hoping to live with less and not have the consumerism burden on our shoulders.

So, a quick explanation of the name – do you like it? Do you agree with the use of frugal? Please let me know in the comments below!

I like the name very much indeed – I think it comes across that you’re looking to make a home, not a house – two different things! The idea of spending wisely is important, and even more so when you have big financial goals for the future!

I would agree – great name, lovely theme and layout. I’m really excited for what’s to come on this blog. I would suggest it would be helpful to have your social media icons (Twitter/Facebook) somewhere on the homepage. I’d love to connect but I’m not sure what your details are!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! I need to work out how to add the social media icons under the information bit at the side – I shall research that later. Thanks for the suggestion! In the meantime, my twitter is @thefrgalcottage 🙂
