May Aims

May 1, 2020

Hello May! It seems strange to be starting a new month when there are so many uncertainties. But, I keep saying that I am trying to keep things as normal as I can, so here we are. April seems to have been such a non month, if that makes sense. I wonder what May will bring. It is getting more tough the longer it goes on. I know that it’s for the best but it doesn’t make it any easier in some ways. You know what’s the worst thing? Not knowing when I can see my parents again. Or my in-laws. Yes, I can speak to them on the phone or through video messenger, but it’s not the same. It’s not the same for our boys either; they’re missing their grandparents terribly.

Finances wise, it is having an impact, in good and bad ways. Our food budget has gone up, because we are eating at home all of the time, plus it’s still proving difficult to get non-branded items of certain things, so it’s naturally more expensive. Petrol use is way down, so that’s a good thing. Miscellaneous budget stays fairly consistent yet the children’s budget hasn’t been touched either. It’s so strange! Although I do think I will have to order them some new clothes soon, as both are going through a growth spurt at the moment.

My Financial aims for May are:

– Have 20 No Spend Days (NSDs)

– Overpay the mortgage by £185

– Put £700 into savings

Same as always; these should be easy to meet providing our jobs stay secure. Technically, with us both being key workers they should be. I mentioned briefly in a video last week about how I need to up our emergency fund. Any spare cash I have at the moment, aside from money for our long term goals, shall be put into our emergency fund. This strategy worked quite well during April, so I am continuing it during May.

My Personal Aims for May are:

– take each day as it comes

– Upload another two products to The Frugal Cottage shop

I know that May might be just as tough as April, though we are settling into a new normal and with that brings a change of pace. I am actually enjoying the slower start in the morning rather than trying to get everyone out of the door by 7:20AM. But, taking it a day at a time will help. I have uploaded one new product to the shop already – my much used Meal Planner – and I have another couple of products to upload soon. Thank you if you ever decide to download them – it helps me out! 🙂

Here’s to surviving May! What are your aims for the month? I’d love to hear them!
