June 2014: A Month In Review.

June 30, 2014

So, June is over! Well, almost. At the end of every month I’ll do an update on the month and how I managed with the aims I set at the beginning of the month.

June has been pretty good for us; we’ve been busy with work for quite a lot of the time and so our spending has been lower than normal. We’ve also been spending more time in our garden, both doing gardening and just enjoying the space, so we haven’t been going out as often. I love it when the sun is shining and I’m sat in our garden having a lemonade and enjoying the peace and quiet. I don’t think it gets any better than that.

June also marks the first month of my blogging adventure on here. I must say, I’ve really enjoyed the process and I’ve met some really nice people in the blogging world. I’ve also enjoying figuring out how Twitter works (though I’m not sure I’ve mastered it at all!) and connecting with people on there. I’ve gained 49 followers on Twitter in my first month on there, which I think is exciting. I’ve also had 2,007 views on the blog, which is amazing – it’s great to know that people are reading my work and I really enjoying reading the comments that people are kind enough to leave.

Our Financial aims for June were:

– Have 18 No Spend Days (or NSDs)

– Overpay our mortgage by £350

– Put £600 into savings

In the aspect of our financial goals, they’ve gone really well. In fact, I’ve managed to hit all three aims! I’ve managed to have 20 NSDs (see my post here on how NSDs work) which is great. It would have been higher but we’ve seen more friends this month which has incurred small spends, but worth it. Our overpayments for June stand at £354.88 so just over our target. Still, we managed to do it! And lastly, our savings for June stand at £689.26 which I think is fantastic! This is the first month where we’ve managed to save over £600 for a long time, which just shows that we can do it if we’re careful. I think it’s easier not to spend so much in the summer months; not sure why though.

Personal Aims for June were:

– lose 5lbs

– bake at least twice

– have a date night with the hubby

Now, the personal aims haven’t gone so well this month. I know I haven’t lost any weight, which is definitely disappointing but when work gets busy, healthy eating seems to go out of the window! I need to look at this in July, as I don’t want to end up gaining weight because I’m feeling stressed.

I’ve managed to make some scones, but that’s it. Ooops. At least I baked something?

Me and my husband did have a date night though, which was lovely. In the end, we didn’t go anywhere but I made us dinner and we watched a DVD and had some wine. I lit some candles in the living room and it was all nice and cosy. In fact, it was a lovely evening. Definite tick for this aim this month.

So, that’s my June round up! I’ll set some new aims for July tomorrow once I’ve had a think about them and worked out what I want to achieve.

How has June been for you? Have you hit your aims? I’d love to hear about it!

    Nicola,

Congrats on a very successful month! You’re doing great. Keep it up!!

I should start tracking my NSDs. Off the top of my head, I probably have 15 or so per month, but it would be nice to know where I stand.

    Best wishes!

Well done on your June goals! Overpaying your mortgage is a great thing to do and managing to save at the same time is even better.
