The Weekend Edition #37

March 29, 2015

This week has gone by slowly, mainly because I have continuously wanted it to be the weekend. I hate it when work goes slowly, as the days drag on and on, without any break. However, the week is now over and it has been a relatively normal week, bar one exception (see below). There’s also something else happening but I will share that in due course, so watch this space!

I mentioned recently that our oven has broken. Well, we shopped around, looked online and tried to find the best deal for us. Our oven is a range style oven, and our kitchen is built around the oven, so it did limit the style we could choose. Also, range ovens seem to be much more expensive then an electric oven – typical – so the end cost has been more than we had wanted to pay. We ended up getting an oven which was the cheapest style one we could find, plus it had £200 off in the sale. Still, with the cost of the oven, delivery and installation fees, the final price has come to a massive £738. Ouch. So, as you’ll see from the March review coming up in the week, our savings have had to take a bit of a  hit this month.

5 things I’ve enjoyed/been grateful for this week:

1) A family day out with a walk and cake – what more do you need?

2) Slow cooked beef bourgeon with mustard mash and veg, followed by apple and pear crumble. All homemade, all delicious.

3) Waking up to sunshine. Something about the sun makes you feel better.

4) Received an invitation to a good friend’s wedding – what a wonderful thing to have to look forward to.

5) A cup of tea and a biscuit to dunk surely is one of life’s best, simple things to enjoy in life.

5 blog posts I’ve enjoyed this week:

1) Scars & Killer Harissa by Whole Larder Love. I love this blog and the pictures. Killer Harissa sounds great!

2) Shackfuyu, Soho by The Londoner. I love foodie posts and the pictures are great on this post.

3) Happiness is… by Creative Countryside. I love this post; the simple things in life really are the best.

4) How To Get Out Of A Financial Rut And Get Motivated by Making Sense of Cents. I’ve been feeling a bit like this lately, so this was a very timely post.

5) Planning For Retirement by Down To Earth. A frugal, no-nonsense post about retirement planning.

And, in case you’ve missed them, these are the topics I’ve posted about this week:

– 3 Healthy Lunch Recipes On A Budget – here are my some of my favourite, cheap lunch recipes.

– The Working Week Challenge – Weeks 1 and 2 – an update on my challenge and how much I’ve saved so far.

What have you enjoyed reading this week? Any plans for the week ahead? I’d love to hear about it!

    Nicola,

Every time I visit your blog I leave hungry because you talk about all these delicious dishes.

I’m sorry to hear your oven cost as much as it did. Don’t worry too much about it though. With the amount of cooking you do, I’m sure it’ll give you great pleasure for a very long time.

    Best wishes,
    NMW
