April Aims

Hello April! It feels a bit odd writing my normal monthly aims post when we’re in such a strange situation. But, I keep saying that I am trying to keep things as normal as I can, so here we are. The fourth month of 2020 already; the second quarter. It should have been the Easter holidays this month, yet we’re in lockdown so I’m sure it won’t feel like it at all. You know what’s the worst thing? Not knowing when I can see my parents again. Or my in-laws. Yes, I can speak to them on the phone or through video messenger, but it’s not the same. It’s not the same for our boys either; they’re missing their grandparents terribly.

 

But, I get to stay safe at home. I think that’s going to be my new motto for April! Instead of focusing on being stuck at home, I need to focus on being able to stay safe at home. Mr FC still has to go out to work but the three of us can stay cocooned up in our house, whether they like it or not 😉

 

Finances wise, it’s obviously going to have an impact. I think food spends are going to increase, because we are having to buy more branded stuff just because there isn’y any other option. Petrol budget will go down as I’m not driving the 50 miles to work three times a week. The children’s budget will probably be less as we’re not going anywhere. If only I could take them to soft play! I will be able to one day, I hope.

 

My Financial aims for April are:

– Have 20 No Spend Days (NSDs)

– Overpay the mortgage by £185

– Put £700 into savings

 

Same as always; these should be easy to meet providing our jobs stay secure. Technically, with us both being key workers they should be. I mentioned briefly in a video last week about how I need to up our emergency fund. Any spare cash I have at the moment, aside from money for our long term goals, shall be put into our emergency fund. More on this in a post next week.

 

My Personal Aims for April are:

– take each day as it comes.

 

I know that April is going to be tough; it’s so far from our usual routine. Plus our four year old doesn’t understand properly why he can’t go outside with his friends, why he’s not in school and why he can’t talk to his teacher. This is only going to continue (get worse?) over the next few weeks so I just need to take each day as it arrives. And hope for the best. April is going to be a challenge! But, I am as ready as I can be.
