October 2019 – A Month In Review

October 31, 2019

Goodbye October! I cannot believe how fast that month went by. October seems to be so long and yet so short at the same time. Does that make sense? I have really struggled in October with keeping on top of things. Including our finances. Both boys have been poorly during the month and that automatically seems to mean hardly any sleep. And then everything seems to go out of the window!

So, not the month I had planned. Christmas shopping has not happened, for a start! I wanted to make a start on this so that it doesn’t all happen in the last month of the year. I’d also forgotten our car tax was due so that was an unexpected £145 to pay for as well – we do a year’s worth at a time. Another couple of big(ish) expenses means it hasn’t gone to plan.

My Financial aims for October were:

– Have 18 No Spend Days (NSDs)

– Overpay our mortgage by £185

– Put £600 into savings

I think I’ve managed to have 15 NSDs, though this is the first month in a long time that I haven’t actively tracked them. I have sat and tried to work it out and come to the conclusion that I have managed 15. Not too bad. I looked at the start of the month and I’ve actually passed my aim for overpayments this year, so they will be smaller for the next couple of months. I’ve overpaid £36.82 during October. And finally, I have managed to put £500 into savings, which is short of my aim but okay considering the month we’ve had!

My Personal Aims for October were:

– start to get organised for Christmas

– stick with the plan!

So, I definitely haven’t started on Christmas yet. I am trying to not let this stress me! And the plan – I’ve half managed that this month.

I have been working hard at no spend days. I seem to only manage two a week. I do hope your boys are better soon.
