May 2019 – A Month In Review

May 31, 2019

Well, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m glad May is over. Firstly, it seems like it has gone on forever, plus I have found this month to be particularly difficult. In fact, for the first time since I started this blog in 2014, including when I had my children, I have had a posting break for two weeks. If you read this post, you will know why.

The building work is going well; in fact we should be finished by the end of next month and I cannot wait. I am so over living out of our living room and having no kitchen! It will all be worth it in the end, that’s what I keep telling myself. However, I can’t pretend that I have enjoyed the process and it certainly has had an impact on how I feel lately.

My Financial aims for May were:

– Have 18 No Spend Days (NSDs)

– Overpay our mortgage by £185

– Put £300 into savings

I have managed to squeeze in with the NSD aim at the last minute, hitting 18 NSDs as of today, so I am pleased with that. I am definitely noticing a trend with my spending days, as I’m keeping them tracked in my NSD tracker. A visual aid is really helping! In terms of our mortgage overpayment, this is going well so far in 2019! This month I have managed £298.80 to the mortgage, which is over £100 more than my aim 🙂  Finally, our savings amount is going to be smaller going forward, until we finish all the building work. However, I have put £509.76 into savings this month so I’ve met this one too. In fact, this is the first month in ages where I have met all three of my financial aims!

My Personal Aims For May were:

– try and get ahead with blog posts

– finish the book I’m currently reading.

– no chocolate

I haven’t met any of these aims; in fact I have just been trying to stay on track each day and that’s about it. Must do better in June.

Like yourself May was a bad month, but I have picked myself up and I am starting again (and not even waiting until tomorrow I am starting today!)

Well done with May’s aims and good luck with June’s. Glad the building work is almost over, not to have a kitchen must be hell. My May was extraordinarily expensive – hopefully like yourself I will be back on track in June.

Thank you! It has been tough without a kitchen, I must admit. I hope your June is better 🙂
