January Aims

January 2, 2019

Hello January! The start of a new year always brings renewed hope and promise. I love not knowing where the year is going to take us. January should be relatively quiet for The Frugal Cottage household. Although Frugal Toddler is going to have the best time – he’s going to Center Parcs during the month with his grandparents and I’m sure he’s going to enjoy every minute! I’m a bit jealous really, as I’ll be at work but never mind.

January always seems to be a good starting point to get the year off in a positive way. I am hoping that the quiet nature of the month means a positive impact on our finances. We shall see! We definitely need to have a much less spend-y month than December turned out to be.

Financial aims for January:

– Have 18 No Spend Days (NSDs)

– Overpay our mortgage by £185

– Put £670 into savings

NSDs seem to be very elusive at the moment. I completely failed my 2018 challenge for these. However, I am so determined to get back on the NSD wagon. This still gives me 13 spend days during January. Surely I can do that?! I am so determined, plus I think that filling in my budget planner every day will help. I’m hoping so 🙂 our mortgage overpayment aim will be the same each month from now on. And lastly, a very specific number into savings but as I’m planning on a no spend month, I’m hoping to save more than this! We shall see 🙂

Personal Aims For January:

– lose 6lbs

– to not put too much pressure on myself

– go to bed early!

Starting as I mean to go on, I’d like to lose some weight each month. I’m going to try and stop snacking in between meals as I’m sure that’ll help. I do need to lose some weight, for health reasons if nothing else. And I’ve eaten so much over the holidays that I’m actually craving fruit and veg! And, as part of my 2019 goals, I want to get a better night time routine, which includes going to bed earlier. Sometimes will be tricky with a 1 year old who wakes, but I’m hoping to get better at this.

Here’s to January and the start of 2019 being great! What are your aims for the month? I’d love to hear them!
