7 Low Cost Ways To Make Your Home A Nicer Place

May 21, 2018

When you’re trying to stick to a budget, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a newbie figuring out where all your money is going, then chances are you are going to be staying at home more often. Which means that you are going to spend a lot of time within the four walls of your home, so to speak!

So, you’re going to want to make your house seem like the nicest, most lovely place to spend an evening. Especially if you’ve invited friends round for dinner or are planning on hosting something at home.

So, here are 7 low cost ways to make your home a nicest place:

1) Declutter an obvious surface. One hot spot in our house for clutter is the kitchen table. It’s the place where the post gets put when you walk in the room, plus anything else you might have in your hands as you enter. Spend 15 minutes doing this and it will look so much better. Don’t forget to shred things you don’t need!

2) Light a candle. I love having a candle lit on an evening, though I don’t get the chance to do it as often now we have two children. However, the scent and the light from a candle can make a space seem much more cosy! I currently have this one on our mantlepiece; the wooden wick makes a lovely sound when it’s burning.

3) Do some baking. There’s nothing better than the smell of a freshly baked cake to make your house seem so nice. Even better is that you then get to eat it! Preferably with a cuppa as well. Try my lemon drizzle cake recipe as a start, it’s so tasty!

4) Take some time out to do something relaxing. At the moment, I am loving doing my bullet journal. Just taking 5 minutes to fill that in on an evening for the next day makes me focus on what might happen tomorrow. Or perhaps some colouring in? I’ve got the Harry Potter one which is fun to do.

5) Get some fresh flowers. A Ā£3 bunch of tulips can make the place seem so much brighter. I love the rainbow tulips you can get at the store at the moment. I have some on our kitchen window at the moment and they make me smile when I walk in there šŸ™‚ there’s something about fresh flowers, right? Or, if you don’t like having real flowers in your home, a cheap vase with fake ones in can look just as pretty.

6) Tidy up your hallway. Or wherever it is you keep your shoes and coats. That’s always one area that can look messy and unorganised. I know that when I get home from work, the last thing I’m thinking about it putting my shoes and coat away properly! A quick tidy will improve how this looks, which will then create a calmer atmosphere when you arrive home.

7) Ā Donate 5 things you no longer use. Decluttering your home and creating a more organised space will make your home seem brighter and calmer. There are so many items in every household that are no longer used! Sit for 5 minutes and pick 5 things that you could donate to a charity shop, that you truly no longer need. I bet you could find more than 5 if you tried! A tidier home is always a nicer place to be. Says the person with two small children who leave distraction wherever they go šŸ˜‰

So there you have it! 7 low cost ways to make your home a nicer place. That evening in will seem all the more relaxing šŸ™‚

What do you think? Any other tips you can add? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!Ā

Make your bed when you get up – walking into a straightened bedroom at the end of a long day is always nice!

I’m loving these ideas, my kitchen is definately a dumping ground. I also keep post, note book, diary etc there out of the kids way so things dont get lost but it mounts up and makes the kitchen unbearable at times.

Something I’ve done this morning which makes me feel better and it effects me more than anyone else is clearing out my handbag and purse. With two kids everything gets dumped in it from spare pants, wipes, half eaten bags of crisps, even bits of peel from fruit or even when shopping receipts, tokens club cards all get dumped in it and I can never find what I need when I need it.
