I remember having my eyes tested when I was 16 and being told I would need glasses to read the board at school. I’ll admit, part of me was a tiny bit gutted. I didn’t want to wear glasses! But, once I had them, I could see that they were actually a big help when I was continuing studying. I suppose you don’t want to admit to part of your body not working properly. It didn’t matter than I had friends who wore glasses, or a parent, I didn’t particularly like wearing them.
So, as soon as I could, I changed from having glasses to contact lenses. And now, I wear contact lenses all day every day, so it is an additional expense in our budget. One I am more than happy to pay for! I also have a pair of glasses to wear on an evening.
I have, however, been using the same brand/company for my contact lenses for as long as I can remember having them. I suppose that’s down to ease more than anything? It’s the same place I go to get my eyes checked every two years as well, so it made sense just to get my prescription with them.
So, I decided to have a look around to see if there were any varying prices. And there are! There is actually a great range in prices for contact lenses, and these can vary massively. The same brand can cost much more depending on where and in what quantity you purchase. Disposables are certainly one of the biggest in terms of price different, as you can see by these sold on Vision Direct. So you can save £100s by buying contact lenses online – who knew?!
I also didn’t realise that you can get a copy of your prescription from your optician even if you don’t buy your lenses from them. You can then use your new prescription to use with an online retailer to save money! Plus, it’s easier to bulk buy online as well, saving even more. Obviously, if you are buying your contact lenses online, then you need to have regular check ups to make sure you’re looking after your eyes 🙂
There are also voucher codes you can use online to get even more of a discount! I don’t think the high street brand I use would offer a discount. Nor, to be honest, would it occur to me to ask!
So there you have it; a bit of a different money saving topic today, but one that is important. As someone who has spent £100s on contact lenses, this is definitely something I should have thought about sooner!
