3 Tips For Being A Successful Ebay Seller

August 12, 2014

Whilst I was at university, I sold quite a few things on Ebay to create some extra income during the term, including one where I needed the extra money quickly as I’d run out. I did quite well in terms of selling items quickly and getting positive feedback, so I thought I’d share some tips on how to be a successful Ebay seller.

3 tips for being a successful Ebay seller:

1) Take clear photos. There is nothing worse when browsing on Ebay for a product is a really bad photo. Either it’s blurred, or it’s not focused on the right thing, or the picture is really dark/light and so you can’t really see the product at all. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but a clear picture will make or break your sale.

2) Be honest with your description and title. There’s no point describing something as brand new when in reality it’s not new, got some marks on and is generally in a poor condition. Firstly, you’ll get negative feedback and secondly, you’ll probably have to refund the buyer. Be honest with your descriptions – if something is marked or damaged then say so! Some people don’t mind that a product isn’t perfect, but they want to know about it before they buy.

3) Be fast with responses and postage. If a potential buyer asks a question about your product, aim to reply as soon as you can. Fast response times can make people buy things quickly, instead of having to wait for a response and find someone else’s product to buy in the meantime. When someone buys your product, aim to post it the next day, so that the buyer receives it as soon as possible. Not only is this polite, but it will mean that they are more likely to buy from you in the future.

These three tips for selling on Ebay really helped me during my time at uni when I needed some extra cash fast. Some people make a lot of money selling products online and I think these three tips will help you along the way.

Do you agree? Anything I’ve missed out? I’d love to hear from you!

Having a good quality of photos is really important because the very first thing that the buyer would look is the pictures. Also, you should make a good description details of your products.

Good shout on the descriptions – it pays to be honest about condition.

I’ve never really dabbled with ebay before. I’ve heard so many stories of transactions gone wrong! I almost experienced one, as my ex sold my old phone (I wanted to make money back on upgrading) on ebay to someone in a different country, and he wanted to put a complaint in. I don’t remember what it was about as my ex handled it, but that left a bad taste in my mouth. Glad it’s worked out for you!

I’ve heard some horror stories too, so I guess I’m a lucky one in that respect 🙂
